The Imperfect Tense in Spanish – PDF Worksheet No. 2

¡Hola! Thanks for using our resources. This PDF worksheet was designed to help you practice the rules for the imperfect tense in Spanish, one of two ways to talk about past actions in Spanish. These two exercises include both regular and irregular verbs in this tense. Let’s start…

Directions:

Students could work individually or in pairs to solve the exercises on this worksheet. They can also solve it online on this page.

As it is explained on top of this worksheet, the imperfect tense (pretérito imperfecto) is used to talk about habitual or repeated actions from the past, actions in progress in the past and to describe how things were at some point, for example:

  • Él ayudaba a los más necesitados. (He used to help those most in need.)
  • Comenzó a llover mientras yo dormía. (It started to rain while I was sleeping.)

To solve the first exercise, students must complete 12 sentences using the correct form of the verbs in parentheses in the imperfect tense in Spanish. For the second exercise, they must read a short fable about a bunny and a turtle carefully, and find all the verbs in the imperfect tense in this short text.
