¡Hola! Thanks for joining us again. This time, we are sharing another great material to practice some common nicknames in Spanish people use to refer to others based on their physical appearance. We hope you find this interesting. Let’s start…
Directions:
Students can work individually or in pairs to solve the exercises in this worksheet. They can also solve it online on this page.
This material consists of two simple exercises. To solve the first exercise, students must find 22 words representing popular Spanish nicknames people use to call others based on their appearance in the word search. Most of these “apodos” are quite polite, but just like in any other language, we must be careful to use them only with people who won’t feel offended by them. As for the second exercise, students should look at the drawings of different people and find one, two or more nicknames from the list that would best fit each person’s physical appearance. These words could be used like this:
- Disculpa cariño, ¿me pasas eso? (Excuse me, honey, can you hand me that?)
- Flaco, ¿Qué vas a hacer mañana? (Flaco, what are you going to do tomorrow?)
- ¡Chele! ¡Qué gusto verte amigo! (Chele! Nice to see you, friend!)
*Chele (a person with white skin) * Flaco (a skinny person)
