¡Hola! Thanks for using our resources. We have designed this PDF worksheet for you to practice the grammar rules for the past perfect tense in Spanish, that is, “el pretérito pluscuamperfecto”, by solving three simple exercises on this topic. Let’s start…
Directions:
Students could work individually or in pairs to solve the exercises on this worksheet.
As it is briefly explained on the worksheet, “el pretérito pluscuamperfecto”, the past perfect in Spanish can be used to refer to actions, processes or states prior to another situation that took place in the past too. It is formed with the imperfect tense of the verb HABER (había, habías, habíamos, etc.) plus verbs in the past participle (verbs ending in -ado/ido).
In order to solve the first exercise, students should write the conjugations of the verb HABER in the imperfect tense next to each subject pronoun. Know that HABER will work as an auxiliary verb, just the way “HAD” does in the English language for this tense. Next, students should fill in the blanks with these forms of HABER or the past perfect of a verb that best describe the actions in the pictures. Finally, to solve the second exercise, students must fill in the blanks with both HABER in its imperfect form and the correct past participle of the verbs in parentheses. Remember that if students have doubts, they can always double-check the right form of verbs with a conjugation tool.
