¡Hola! Welcome to our website. This time, we are sharing a PDF worksheet with two grammar exercises related to the verb HABER in Spanish, based on things we could say using this verb in real life. We hope that you find this material very useful. Let’s start…
Directions:
Students could work individually or in pairs to solve the exercises on this worksheet. They can also work on both exercises by solving the interactive quizzes in this page.
Give students a copy of the worksheet. Students should be familiar with the different tenses in the language, particularly the perfect tenses like the present or past perfect, but they can also use a conjugation tool to make sure they are using the correct verb forms. As it is explained in the worksheet, the verb HABER can be used by itself meaning “there is/are” in its form “Hay”, “there was” in its forms “Hubo/Había”, and more importantly, it is also an essential auxiliary verb for the present perfect and many other tenses in Spanish, for example:
- Hay un gato afuera de la casa. (There’s a cat outside our house)
- Tú has viajado alrededor del mundo. (You have traveled around the world.)
- Él había venido un par de veces. (He had come a couple of times.)
To solve the first exercise, students must fill in the blanks with the proper conjugations of the verb HABER in Spanish by using each sentence’s complement as a clue. It is possible to use two different forms, meaning two different tenses in some cases, e.g. “yo he” or “yo había”. For the second exercise, students should complete the dialogue in the worksheet, again, by using the verb HABER in the tenses that makes sense for each space so that the entire text is grammatically correct.
