As explained at the top of this worksheet, the imperfect tense in Spanish refers to past actions that had a certain duration or that were performed simultaneously with other actions.
- Vincent pintaba cuadros hermosos. (“pintaba“ instead of the form “pintó” helps to express a habitual action from the past)
- Miró la película cuando iba en el avión. (“iba“ implies that he was watching the movie as the plane was on the move.)
To solve the first exercise, students must fill in a chart with the conjugation of seven regular verbs and another one with the conjugations of three irregular verbs in the imperfect tense, keeping in mind that every form depends on the subject at the top of the table. To solve the second exercise, students must carefully read a short story about a boy and his mother and write the correct conjugations of the verbs in parentheses in the imperfect tense in Spanish to complete it.
