Hello! Thank you for learning Spanish with us. We have designed this PDF worksheet to help you practice the conjugation rules for the Spanish simple past tense (pretérito perfecto simple) with two engaging exercises. Let’s get to work!
Instructions:
Students can work on this material individually or in pairs. They can also solve both exercises online on this page.
As we explained in the main lesson, el pretérito perfecto simple (or pretérito indefinido) refers to past actions that have already concluded; for example:
- El avión aterrizó en el aeropuerto hace dos horas. (aterrizar)
- The plane landed at the airport two hours ago. (to land)
To solve the first exercise, students must read and analyze ten sentences written in the Spanish present tense. They should then rewrite these sentences, changing the main verb to the Spanish simple past tense (pretérito perfecto simple); for example, if a sentence reads “Yo escucho música” (I listen to music), they should write “Yo escuché música” (I listened to music) in the box provided next to it. For the second exercise, students must read another set of sentences and select the correct preterite forms in Spanish from the available options to complete them. Students may use a conjugation tool to verify the correct verb forms for each instance.
